Every issue has a theme: try giving yours to issue zero.

An issue zero made together.

Numero Zero is a quarterly digital periodical about multimedia languages (video, generative art, sound, web), built by a community.

Issue zero
is yours too.

What it is

Each issue is an interactive page, with a theme and an order. An issue zero is the dress rehearsal of a publication, before it becomes periodical.

Who makes it. Artists, designers and people working with video, sound, graphics, web and generative art. The publication comes from the people who take part.

How often. Every three months. The quarterly rhythm is not just a calendar: it is how often the community comes together.

Where it comes from. From a thesis in New Technologies of Art at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, and before that from Fiori d’Inchiostro, a collective imagined and never built.

With AI, declared. Artificial intelligence is used as a collaborator in the design, and every step is documented. Contributors are asked to say whether and how they used it.

How an issue is made

  1. First, the theme.

Together with the community, so the call comes from the group.

  2. Then the work arrives.

Anyone who wants to take part sends their work through a form, by a deadline.

  3. We meet in person.

The contributions are presented and discussed together, as in zine culture.

  4. The issue comes out.

A small editorial team selects, orders and builds the page. The works stay with the people who made them.

Four ideas Numero Zero takes from zines, and brings to the web.

Community as origin
The publication comes from the people who take part, not from an editorial board speaking to an audience.
The issue as a unit
A closed whole, with a theme and an order, the opposite of the endless feed.
Periodicity
Every three months the community meets: the calendar is also a rhythm.
Declared curation
Selection exists, and it should be visible and in the hands of people, not of opaque mechanisms.
